Outline
Small Ruminant Field Day is a workshop for local producers and perspective beginning farmers to attend and learn from Extension Specialists, local veterinarians, and other producers about different aspects of managing a small ruminant operation. The topics include insurance/tax/legal considerations for starting an operation, dystocia and difficult births, an update and overview of the Virginia Tech Ram test and information about National Sheep Improvement Program by Dr. Scott Greiner. Afternoon rotations will consist of a hands-on tour of the Virginia State University Small Ruminant Mobile Processing Unit by Dr. Dahlia O'Brien, on farm first aid and emergency preparedness, and breeding stock selection and NSIP from a producers perspective. Additionally, Nick Forrest will be joining us to cook lamb 5 different ways for participants to taste for lunch, and Nick will be doing a talk on cuts of lamb and how to market to consumers.

Fees Total: $35.00 - If a parent pays the full registration amount, and a 4-H participant from the same household wants to register, please use the 1st Option of $25 for the parent, and option 2: $10 for the 4-H participant.
