Do you have a well, spring or cistern?
Learn about your water quality through affordable, confidential testing and become empowered to make decisions about system maintenance and water treatment! The goal of the Virginia Household Water Quality Program is to improve the water quality and health of Virginians with private water supplies, including wells, springs and cisterns.
How does it work?
- Pick up your sample kit and instructions at the Kickoff Meeting. The Kickoff Meeting will occur at the Essex County Public Library on Tuesday, May 28, 2024, 6pm.
- Collect samples on designated date and drop off at the Essex County Public Library. Sample drop off will occur on Wednesday, June 5, 2024, 8:00am – 10:00am ONLY.
- Samples are analyzed at Virginia Tech. Results will be emailed or mailed 4-5 weeks after collection. There will also be a Results Interpretation Meeting on Wednesday, July 10, 2024, 6pm at the Essex County Public Library.

Cash (exact change) and checks will be accepted in person at the Essex County VCE Office, 112 Cross Street, Tappahannock, VA 22560. Please make checks payable to VCE Essex. Please note there is a $50 returned check fee. Your registration is not complete until payment is received and processed.
