Category 3A—Ornamental Pest Control: for use of pesticides in the production and/or maintenance of ornamental trees, shrubs and flowers in and out-of- doors

March 18, 2024:  
Category 3B—Turf: for use of pesticides in the production and/or maintenance of turf such as on golf courses, residential lawns, parks and cemeteries.   

March 25, 2024: 
Exam(s)- No Registration Necessary.

8:30 a.m. - 4:00 p.m. - Please arrive early for check in.

Cost: $25 Does not include VDACS fee or study manuals. Other materials and refreshments are included in the training fees.

Outline

Step 1 Register for Training
  • If you are an individual registering and paying for yourself, please use the Individual Checkout option. Registration instructions are found here

  • If you are a company registering 2 or more employees, please use the Family/Group Checkout option. Registration instructions are found here.

Step 2 — Apply with VDACS
  • To sit for a registered technician exam or certified applicator exam, you MUST present a Letter of Authorization from VDACS Office of Pesticide Services. Go to the VDACS website to determine which type of license and find forms: https://www.vdacs.virginia.gov/pesticides.shtml  Should you have any questions, please send an email to opsclrt.vdacs@vdacs.virginia.gov or call VDACS directly at (804) 786-4845. 

  • We encourage you to use the VDACS Online Portal as this can reduce processing delays. The Letter will be sent via email if processed online. Please plan accordingly, if paper forms are submitted you should ALLOW UP TO THREE WEEKS FOR VDACS TO PROCESS your application.

  • Once your VDACS application and fee has been processed by VDACS, you will receive a Letter of Authorization to take the exam. Each Letter of Authorization is valid for only one testing session. Retakes are not permitted without re-applying to test. If you fail your exam(s) or your Letter of Authorization expires and you have NOT tested, you must re-apply to test.

  • ALLOW TWO WEEKS FOR VIRGINIA TECH TO PROCESS AND DELIVER.

  • 3A Current Manual - 2016 Edition 

  • 3B- Current Manual - 2022 Edition

  • NOTE: If you have access to any study manuals make sure they are the above current editions and bring them to the training sessions as there will not be extras.

Step 4 - Attend Training
  • This is a Review Class. There is no guarantee you will pass the exam(s).

  • Plan to study on your own and attend the training sessions 

Step 5 - Take Exam(s)

Bring the Letter of Authorization provided by VDACS and a government issued photo identification when you go to take exam.

  • Exams offered on Monday, March 25, 2024. Exams will be taken using paper and pencil with VDACS personnel onsite. These exams are not graded onsite. 

  • Within 90 days of the date of the Letter of Authorization, report to a DMV Customer Service Center to take the exam by computer. Computerized exams are scored as you are taking them,
