Do you have a well, spring or cistern?  What is in YOUR water?

Did you know that private water supplies, like wells and springs are unregulated?  It is therefore the responsibility of the homeowner to regularly test water quality, maintain the water system, and address any problems.

Learn about your water quality through affordable, confidential testing and become empowered to make decisions about system maintenance and water treatment!  The goal of the Virginia Household Water Quality Program is to improve the water quality and health of Virginians with private water supplies, including wells, springs and cisterns.  Participation is voluntary and confidential.

How does it work?

  1. Pick up your sample kit at the customer service window at the main entrance to the Hanover Extension office.  Kit pickup will occur on Monday, June 10, 2024, 9:00am – 7:00pm & Tuesday, June 11, 2024, 9:00am – 5:00pm.
  2. Collect samples and drop off in the parking lot of the Hanover Extension office.  This curbside drop off will occur on Wednesday, June 12, 2024, 7:00am – 10:00am.
  3. Samples are analyzed at Virginia Tech. Results will be emailed about 5 weeks after collection.  If you do not have an email address, your results will be mailed.  Questions about your results can be directed to the Hanover Extension office.  Please contact Missy Johnson at 804-752-4310 or mcjohnson@vt.edu.
