Do you have a well or spring in Floyd County? Do you wonder if your water is safe to drink?
Learn about your water quality through affordable, confidential testing and become empowered to make decisions about system maintenance and water treatment! The goal of the Virginia Household Water Quality Program is to improve the water quality and health of Virginians with private water supplies, including wells, springs and cisterns.
How does it work?
- Pick up your sample kit at the Floyd Extension office (drive thru service - look for and follow signs). Kit pickup will occur on Monday, May 20, 2024, 12:00pm (noon) – 1:00pm OR 5:00pm – 6:00pm.
- Collect samples on designated date and drop off locally (drive thru service - look for and follow signs). Sample drop off will occur on Wednesday, May 22, 2024, 7:00am – 9:00am.
- Samples are analyzed at Virginia Tech. Results will be emailed or mailed the week of June 17, 2024.

This system is designed to process credit card payments only. Payments with Cash or Check can be made the day of kit pick-up on May 20, 2024, but you must call the office at 540-745-9307 prior to the pick-up day to register for a kit. We have a limited number of kits available, so please call if you plan to pay with cash or check. There is a $50 return check fee. Your registration is not complete until payment is received and processed.
Please Note: Kits may sell out, so online credit card payment is recommended for this program.
