Henrico 4-H Youth: Growing a More Food-Secure Future!
This workshop is for youth in grades 3-5.
Dive into the world of food security with Henrico 4-H! Discover how food impacts lives locally and globally, and uncover the challenges and opportunities in creating a sustainable food system. Through hands-on activities and creative teamwork, you’ll learn how YOU can help grow stronger, more food-secure communities. Together, we can plant the seeds for a brighter tomorrow!

Workshop Schedule
This workshop includes 3 activities:
Food Fighters - This collaborative board game gamifies learning about the global food supply chain. Youth work together to secure their town's food supply, making strategic decisions and building teamwork skills.
Chew on This - This entrepreneurial challenge encourages youth to think critically about food waste reduction. By brainstorming innovative uses for food scraps, youth develop problem-solving and design-thinking skills.
Know to Grow—This hands-on engineering activity introduces youth to plant science and controlled-environment agriculture. Youth design and build efficient growing environments, fostering an understanding of plant cultivation and its role in food security.
Notes
Youth will be required to register in 4-H Online after paying through Destiny One. Families will be sent specific details with how to register in 4-H Online. Youth can be dropped off up to 15 minutes early (7:45 a.m.) and must be picked up promptly at 12 p.m.
Refund Request:
To receive a refund, a request must be sent in writing to Carter Humphries: ccd296@vt.edu by April 9, 2025. A $5 processing fee will apply. Refunds will not be processed after April 9. Refunds take approximately 6 weeks to be received.
