Description

Do you have a well, spring, or cistern? Do you wonder if your water is safe to drink?

Learn about your water quality through affordable, confidential testing and become empowered to make decisions about system maintenance and water treatment!  The goal of the Virginia Household Water Quality Program is to improve the water quality and health of Virginians with private water supplies, including wells, springs and cisterns.

How does it work?

  1. Pick up your sample kit at the Surry or Sussex* County Extension Office.  Kit pickup will occur on Monday, November 4, 2024, or Tuesday, November 5, 20249:00am – 5:00pm.
  2. Collect samples on designated date and drop off at the the Surry or Sussex* County Extension Office.  Sample drop off will occur at the front of the offices on Wednesday, November 6, 2024, 8:00am – 9:30am.
  3. Samples are analyzed at Virginia Tech. Results will be emailed or mailed approximately 5 weeks after drop-off.  We are available by phone to answer questions - Surry: 757-294-5215 or Sussex: 804-834-1309.

All participant information is kept strictly confidential.

Cost*: $70 per sample kit

*Sussex residents are eligible for a limited number of FREE sponsored sample kits courtesy of the Chowan Basin Soil and Water Conservation District (one per household available on a first come, first served basis). Please contact Elizabeth Cooper at (757) 294-5303, or by email elizp16@vt.edu to request registration instructions for the free sponsored kits.

This system is designed to process credit card payments only.  Registration and pre-payment is required to ensure there is a kit available for you. If you wish to pay by another method, please contact your local extension office to receive registration and payment instructions.  Please note there is a $50 returned check fee. Your registration is not complete until payment has been received and processed.

REGISTRATION DEADLINE: October 31, 2024
REFUND POLICY: No refunds will be given after November 6, 2024. All refunds issued will incur a $5 processing fee. Refunds can take 6 - 8 weeks to process.
