Leadership Development Trainings are day-long workshops for EMGs, agents, and coordinators organized by the State Coordinator’s Office. Leadership Development Training workshops offer EMGs throughout the state a chance to expand their knowledge in administrative topics.

Get a head start on our program by watching the State Office Update Presentation (video)
10:00 AM – The Unit Support Committee of the Virginia Master Gardener Association and how they can help your local unit; MaryAnn Kincaid, VMGA. MaryAnn will cover how the VMGA can help your local unit with topics such as financing training programs, what is an association and the relationships with the local unit and the EMG state office, effective fundraising, building association leadership and more.
11:00 AM – Communications Topics: Newsletter Best Management Practices, Devon Johnson, EMG State Office Communications Project Coordinator. In this presentation, Devon will cover topics such as newsletter best management practices, social media, and VCE policies and guidelines related to unit communications.
12:00 PM – Working Lunch**
12:15 PM – Lightning Sessions. We will have three local units present a 7–10 minute overview of one of their projects. Units will provide a brief description of their project, why they started it, how long it has run, how many EMGs are involved, the number of clients reached, budgets, any local partnerships, challenges and what they may/like to do differently.
1:00 PM – A review of the Accessibility and Connection Report (2021); Virginia EMG Program Coordinator. In this presentation the new EMG Coordinator will review the Accessibility and Connection Report that was published by the EMG State Office in 2021 and discuss building diversity in both EMG recruitment and program delivery.
2:00 PM – Project Management; Ed Olsen, Virginia EMG Program Director. Ed will review current EMG procedures and policies regarding program proposals, evaluation and unit/agent approval.
3:00 PM – End of Program
* The same presentations will be featured at each program, though the order of topics may change. Depending on the location, presenters will participate either in person or virtually.
