What’s in your water?

The Virginia Household Water Quality Program aims to improve the water quality and health of Virginians with wells, springs and cisterns. We provide affordable water testing, help interpreting their water test results, and information about addressing problems.

How does it work?

Please Note: Refunds or Transfers to future programs will not be provided if you fail to either pick up your testing kit or drop off your sample before the sample collection date listed below. Refunds will not be issued for registrants who fail to properly apply the discount code during checkout.

1. Pick up your sample kit at your local VCE Office*, Kit pickup will occur on Monday - Friday 7/6/2026 - 7/10/2026 and Monday - Tuesday 7/13/2026 - 7/14/2026, 8:00am - 4:30pm.

2. Collect samples in the morning and drop off the same day at your local VCE Office*. Drop off will occur on Wednesday, 7/15/2026, 7:00am - 9:00am.

3. Samples are analyzed at Virginia Tech. Receive your confidential results, an explanation of what they mean, and information about addressing any problems via email, regular USPS mail, or a zoom or an in-person meeting about 5 weeks after the sample drop off.

Testing includes:

iron	manganese	bacteria (total coliform and E. coli)	arsenic
sodium	copper	lead	nitrate
hardness	pH	total dissolved solids	16 other metals and elements

Cost: $70/sample kit
(comparable analysis at a private commercial lab would cost more than $300)

This system is designed to process credit card payments only. If you would like to pay by cash or check, please contact the Culpeper County Extension Office at 540-727-3435 to arrange payment and be added to the registration list. Returned check fees are determined by the financial institution and may incur a fee up to $50.

REGISTRATION DEADLINE: Monday, July 13, 2026, 5:00pm

COST: $70 per kit

REFUND POLICY: No refunds will be given after 7/13/2026. Any refunds issued will incur a $5 processing fee.
