Description
Leadership Development Trainings are day-long workshops for EMGs, agents, and coordinators organized by the State Coordinator’s Office. Leadership Development Training workshops offer EMGs throughout the state a chance to expand their knowledge in administrative topics.
Session Details
10 :00am - 3:00pm
In-Person: Arlington VA, October 13th 2025: $15.00 for volunteers, $5 for agents (JE Transfer). Lunch and snacks are provided. Refunds incur a $5 processing fee.
Virtual: via zoom, October 13th 2025 (you will be provided a link after registration for the virtual session): $5.00 for everyone. No refunds available.
We cannot accommodate swaps between virtual and in-person.

10:00 – 10:15 AM Welcome & Overview: Kick off the day with introductions, a review of the agenda, and a brief discussion of the goals for leadership development.
10:15 – 11:00 AM New Project Evaluation & Risk Management (Ed Olsen)
This session introduces the new project proposal and evaluation form, followed by a discussion on why projects evolve and how to build adaptability into planning.
11:00 - 11:15 Quick break!
11:15 – 12:00 PM Volunteer Self-Reflection Activity (Kim Kruszewski, VCE- Fairfax)
Participants will complete a self-checklist to reflect on their volunteer roles and leadership skills.
12:00 – 1:00 PM Working Lunch + Lightning Talks (Volunteers)
Enjoy lunch while listening to 10-minute volunteer presentations on projects they’re passionate about, with time for informal discussion and inspiration.
1:00 – 1:45 PM Leadership Succession Planning (Grace Stern)
Explore how to pass the torch, cultivate new leadership, and use job descriptions effectively. Learn how project leadership reveals potential and how to adjust succession plans over time.
1:45 – 2:15 PM Leadership Activity (Grace Stern)
The session encourages reflection on leadership dynamics and equity, gives opportunities for reflection and some individual development opportunities
2:45 – 3:00 PM Project Management Activity (Team-led)
Teams will be assigned a project and then face unexpected changes. They’ll strategize adaptations, identify needed resources, and assess project viability, challenging them to think beyond their home units and “this is how we’ve always done things”
