Do you have a well or spring?

What’s in your water?

Did you know that private water supplies like wells and springs are unregulated? It is the responsibility of the homeowner to regularly test water quality, maintain the water system, and address any problems.  Affordable, confidential water testing and education will be offered through Virginia Cooperative Extension offices in Prince Edward County!  The Virginia Household Water Quality Program aims to improve the water quality and health of Virginians with wells, springs and cisterns. We provide affordable water testing, help interpreting their water test results, and information about addressing problems.

How does it work?

  1. Pick up your sample kit at the Prince Edward Extension Office with physical distancing measures (masks are required).  We will be offering pick up at our office located at 100 Dominion Drive, Farmville, VA 23901: Monday, 3/29/21, 8:00am - 4:30pm
  2. Collect samples and drop off at our office located at 100 Dominion Drive, Farmville, VA 23901: Wednesday, 3/31/21, 8:00am – 10:00am
  3. Samples are analyzed at Virginia Tech.  Results and water system care and maintenance information will be sent to each participant either by email or mail by May 5, 2021.  A pre-recorded video presentation will be made available to help explain the summary results and recommendations to address problems.

Testing includes:

Coliform bacteria
