Do you have a well, spring or cistern?
Learn about your water quality through affordable, confidential testing and become empowered to make decisions about system maintenance and water treatment! The goal of the Virginia Household Water Quality Program is to improve the water quality and health of Virginians with private water supplies, including wells, springs and cisterns.
How does it work?
- Pick up your sample kit and instructions at your local extension office (locations below). Kit pickup will occur on Tuesday, July 2, 2024 - Tuesday, July 9, 2024, 8:00am - 4:30pm.
- Collect samples on designated date and drop off at your local extension office (locations below). Sample drop off will occur on Wednesday, July 10, 2024, 7:00am – 9:00am ONLY.
- Samples are analyzed at Virginia Tech. Results will be emailed or mailed approximately 6 weeks after drop off.

Cost*: $60 per sample kit

*Thanks to a generous sponsor, we have a limited number of kits available at the $60 price. Once those sell out, the price will reset to $70 per kit. This system is designed to process credit card payments only. Registration and pre-payment are required to ensure there is a kit available for you. To pay with a check, please mail your check made payable to Treasurer of Virginia Tech and include “Culpeper Well Water Test Clinic” in the memo line of your check. Checks should be mailed to VCE-Culpeper Office, ATTN: Linda Baldwin, 9432 N. James Madison Hwy, Suite 101, Rapidan, VA 22733. Please note, there is a $50 service fee for any returned checks. Your registration is not complete until payment has been received and processed.
